Smart8 Remote turns an ESP32 into a Wi-Fi remote controller for Super-8 / 16mm cameras that support a simple contact-closure remote input. Control everything from your phone’s browser — no app needed.

No installation on the smartphone or camera modification required!

Suitable for all film projects with timer triggering and timer stopping, time-lapse- and stop-motion projects.

Key features

• Modes: RUN / INTERVAL / TAP (press & hold / Time-lapse / single frame / stop-motion)
• Accurate interval triggering: either Hz (frames per second) or “every N seconds” (e.g. 2–10 s and beyond)
• Adjustable pulse width (ms) for cameras that need a longer “button press”
• Start delay + Stop after (H/M/S)
• Stop at frame (stop at target frame count)
• Live counters: frames, feet, meters, film time (rounded), plus status and mobile-friendly UI

Compatibility

Works with cameras where the remote input is essentially a simple switch contact (contact closure). A remote jack and proper cable/adapter are required.

• A remote port on the camera and a suitable cable/adapter are required. These are present on many models from Bauer, Agfa, Chinon, Minolta, etc.
